Welcome!
Everglen Equine Services is a small, independently owned equine training and lesson business serving horse owners and riders throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Founded and operated by Abby Stoliecki. I focus on behavioral training, foundational horsemanship, and personalized instruction designed to strengthen communication and trust between horse and rider.
I work to enhance the relationship between horses and their owners through compassionate, evidence-based training and education that prioritizes the horse’s mental and physical well-being. I am committed to lifelong learning and continuing education to provide the most up-to-date, science-based care possible.
I am primarily an English rider but occasionally participate in western riding, usually on the trails outside of show season. I enjoy eventing, although I rode solely dressage for a few years I was able to get back into jumping and bring up a young horse about 5 years ago. I was an active member of Pony Club for many years and was able to obtain my C1 horsemanship rating as well as participate in teaching the younger members.
I have experience with starting horses, groundwork, bridleless and liberty work, as well as behavior modification using tools like counter conditioning. Quite a few years ago I trained my arabian gelding to ride bridleless and it was one of the most fun things I ever did. One of my goals is to start a horse completely bridleless. I study equine behavior, and use tools like classical and operant conditioning to teach new behaviors, and counter conditioning to retrain horses to have a positive association with previously negative experiences.
About two years ago I started offering my services to the public, since then I have given lessons to a variety of students, both on their personal horses as well as on my own. I began the colt starting process with a few horses, restarted one, worked on some behavioral cases and helped keep a couple horses in work.
